Markets and shopping
At Portagem (about 5 min.) you’ll find a bakery, closed on Tuesdays, and a ‘Mini-Mercado’, a small grocery. This Mini-Mercado is famous for its homemade chouriço, but also offers cheeses and other products from the area.
In Castelo de Vide (about a 10 min drive) there is a Pingo Doce Supermarket. They have anything you need, vegetables, fruits, meat, fish and in town, there are many small shops, from butchers to pharmacists.
Portalegre (approx. 20 kms) is the capital of the province. Here are all the big supermarkets, Continente, Leclerc, Lidl and Intermarche, to be found in a convenient commercial zone.
On Monday-mornings in Spain at 20 min in Valencia de Alcántara there is a very nice small open-air market, famous for its Spanish ham and sausages as well for local cheeses and vegetables.
In Castelo de Vide, there is an open-air market on Friday mornings. On sale you’ll find clothes, pots and pans, antiques, and other curiosities. The covered vegetable market is just down the hill from the main square
